West Coast Swing is somewhat unique as a social dance, in that competitions are a key feature of the dance. The dance is a living dance, always changing - and much of that innovation happens in competitions.
But the thing that separates West Coast Swing from ballroom is that the competitions are improvised. Random partner, random song. Creativity is rewarded, and whatever your age or dance background - you can thrive.
What will I learn?
The workshops are aimed at preparing you for competitions. We'll explain how the competitions work, what the judges are looking for, and how you can prepare. We'll even run a mock competition, so you have a chance to go through the motions.
When and where?
The workshop is three hours long, followed by a social dance after a break for dinner. Once enough people have registered their interest, we'll get in touch to find a date that works for the majority.
You can attend the workshop, the social dance or both. Our venue is St Chad’s Parish Centre in Headingley. There are many options for food nearby, and the venue has plenty of free parking.
