The majority of West Coast Swing videos you see online are from competitions. But that's just one aspect of the dance - most people dance West Coast Swing for the social dancing. And even the competitions are social dance competitions.

Rotating partners throughout the evening to the DJ's choice of music. Becoming part of a community, keeping fit and above all having fun. This workshop aims to help you first survive, and then thrive in your social dancing.

What will I learn?

The most important thing about social dancing is how it feels. In competitions it's more about how it looks. Connecting with different partners is key, so we'll give you tools to improve your connection.

Then for leads, we cover vocabulary - how to learn, dance and remember a range of moves. While for follows, we'll help you to follow a range of leads with confidence. And talk about how to add your creative input into the dance.

When and where?

The workshop is three hours long, followed by a social dance after a break for dinner. Once enough people have registered their interest, we'll get in touch to find a date that works for the majority.

You can attend the workshop, the social dance or both. Our venue is St Chad’s Parish Centre in Headingley. There are many options for food nearby, and the venue has plenty of free parking.
